A Fresh Start and Newfound Passion in Aviation

Inflight Domicile Manager Emerald Evans shares her story on how she fell in love with the aviation industry and how her leap of faith has led into her current management role.

After graduating with a sociology degree and COVID-19 spreading throughout the world, Emerald Evans moved home with her mother in New Jersey to figure out the next step in her career. After nine months, she decided to switch gears and moved to Chicago, even though she’d only visited the Windy City once two weekends prior. A week later, Emerald signed a new lease via email, packed up her car, and drove 12 hours to her new home in downtown Chicago. While still figuring out what her career would shape into, she decided to become a Flight Attendant. Emerald applied to Air Wisconsin and had her face-to-face interview with our current Director of Inflight, Amber Jordan. She got the job, and the rest is history.

After a few years with us, Emerald took a detour and stepped away from her role, but starting at the end of 2023, we’re excited to have her back on our team as our Inflight Domicile Manager for our Dayton base. Emerald has been in the shoes of all her current flight attendants’, starting brand new in a new field and at a new base location. Today, she is a firsthand resource for those flight attendants. “My favorite part of working with flight attendants will always be how different all our stories are and knowing that we’re all in this together.”

When asked about her inspiration to join this industry, Emerald said that traveling, in general, inspired her to change her career, and once she was immersed in this world, she fell in love. As mentioned, our current Director of Inflight, Amber Jordan, worked closely with Emerald when Amber was an Inflight Domicile Manager. Amber was a role model and inspiration for Emerald, noting, “After 12 years in this industry, Amber has so much compassion and grace toward flight attendants, inflight, and her team. I’m excited to have joined her team and work under her leadership!”

A quote Emerald’s mother always told her growing up, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life,” always stuck with her to find her passion. For all the future flight attendants, mechanics, and aviators, Emerald’s advice is to take the leap of faith and try it! Even if it’s not a lifelong career choice, it’s worth all the people you’ll meet and all the places you go. Aviation seems overwhelming and ever-changing, but that makes it so fun. “No day is the same. If someone told me five years ago that she’d be a flight attendant or even a manager of inflight in Dayton, she would never have believed them! It’s okay to start over or change your mind, regardless of age.”

Travel benefits are a major perk of working for an airline, leading people all around the world. From celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin to Oktoberfest in Munich, Emerald has had many adventures. She encourages others not to plan anything, to take the leap, and to find the first flight with open seats to a new, fun adventure.

Emerald wants to thank everyone who welcomed her back with open arms and made the transition back home easier than she could have imagined. Being back is a full circle moment for Emerald, and she’s excited to continue to share her passion for inflight in her new management role. “I look forward to settling in my new role and marking my stamp in Dayton.”
